As a metal finishing shop, air quality is a top priority for all AeroTek stakeholders. AeroTek has proactively addressed outgoing air quality for many years through the installation of state-of-the-art air scrubbers, and the elimination of environmentally unfriendly processes wherever possible. However, obtaining real-time data of the internal air quality has been difficult. The delays involved with acquiring the information from third party suppliers meant that root cause problem solving, and continuous improvement was nearly impossible.
In 2021, AeroTek’s Health & Safety Continuous Improvement Team took on the task of finding a solution and AeroTek is proud to announce that they have succeeded. AeroTek now has the capability to analyze air quality results in real-time, enabling changes to its facility operations that improve conditions for stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
Modern sensor technology along with an Internet-based Security Technology backbone is revolutionizing the way AeroTek manages internal air quality. Trends or problems are immediately visible, and the correct decisions can be made in a timely manner. The sensors are sensitive enough that if the top has been left off a gallon of MEK, or a scrubber has not been turned on at the appropriate time, actions and targeted training can take place. AeroTek has installed the environmental sensors in each part of the facility in conjunction with an advanced security system around ingress/egress points to meet tightening liability insurance and controlled goods requirements.
The parameters for air quality in the system are set by AeroTek’s Health and Safety team who monitor humidity, temperature, noise levels, particulate levels, TVOC’s and more to achieve an overall air quality index. Once AeroTek has reached a comfort level with the existing parameter settings, they will be tightened to expose the next candidates for continuous improvement of air quality.
